Villa Fuji is a large, light-filled country house in Brejos da Carregueira, in the quiet countryside of pines and dunes between Comporta and Carvalhal, a short drive from the long sandy beaches of the coast.
Set on a 10,000 m² private plot, the 1,000 m² house is made up of whitewashed pavilions with reed roofs, glass walls and wooden boardwalks that wind through a dune garden of olive trees, pines and soft ornamental grasses. At the centre of the house, an old olive tree grows inside a glass atrium, with the living spaces gathered around it. Throughout, timber-beamed reed ceilings, pale floors, natural textures and carefully chosen art give the house a warm, relaxed feel.
There are three living rooms: a spacious main lounge with a reading corner, a cosy TV room looking onto a cactus courtyard, and a quieter sitting room with a piano.
The dining room seats 14 around one long table, and the fully equipped kitchen, with its large wooden table, breakfast bar and cactus-framed windows, has everything the group needs. Outside, life slows down.
The 25-metre saltwater pool is lined with a wooden deck, sun loungers and parasols beneath the olive trees, and ends at a shaded cabana with yellow daybeds.
Facing it, the pool house has its own kitchen and bar, with a round table for long lunches by the water.
Closer to the house, vine-covered pergolas shelter two outdoor lounges and a dining table for 14, softly lit in the evening, with a plancha and a charcoal barbecue for summer dinners.
Pool and beach towels are provided. For more active days, there is a private tennis court, a beach volley court, a pétanque area, a ping-pong table, foosball and rope swings in the garden.
A wooden pavilion houses a bright gym with fitness equipment and a yoga and Pilates studio, both opening onto the garden. Villa Fuji accommodates up to 14 guests in seven bedrooms: six with king-size beds and one twin room.
Each bedroom has its own private bathroom with shower, air conditioning and mosquito nets, and four of them open onto a private terrace.
Every room has its own character, from a gilded screen of cranes to bold pop-art flowers. Housekeeping is included from Monday to Saturday, six hours a day, adding an extra level of comfort throughout the stay.
From the second day of the stay, the housekeeper can also help prepare and serve simple, local meals, up to two meals a day and a maximum of two dinners per week; ingredients are not included.
There is also parking for five cars. With an olive tree at its heart, a long pool and golden evenings under the vines, Villa Fuji is a house made for slowing down, playing outdoors and gathering around the table.
