Trefonen 1.8 miles.
The Long House is a charming, 15th century grade II listed detached barn conversion nestled in the small picturesque hamlet of Pentre, near the village of Trefonen, on the England/Wales border near Oswestry.
Offering off-road parking for up to four vehicles, this welcoming retreat invites families or groups of friends, along with two well-behaved dogs, to enjoy a peaceful escape in the heart of the countryside.
Step inside and you’ll find a generously sized kitchen/diner, thoughtfully equipped with everything you’ll need to rustle up hearty meals after a day of exploring.
The rustic character of the property is immediately apparent, not least in the exposed beams that add a touch of traditional charm throughout the kitchen and adjoining living/dining room.
In the living space, unwind in front of the Smart TV or relax by the woodburning stove, a fine companion for those cooler evenings.
Gather around the dining table to share stories of the day’s adventures, all beneath the warm character of timber beams overhead.
Outside, the front lawn provides a spot for your canine companions to roam, while you sip your morning brew and plan the day ahead.
Whether you’re venturing into the nearby hills or simply enjoying the slower pace of rural living, The Long House offers a welcoming base from which to do it all. When it's time to retire for the night, choose from two well-presented bedrooms: a twin room which can be converted into a super-king-size on request with an en-suite, with an enclosed shower and a family room featuring a double and single bed under the eaves - allowing a group of 5 to stay if including a child.
The property also benefits from a wet room, fitted with a walk-in shower, allowing everyone to prepare for their day. The property is surrounded by an abundance of well-trodden footpaths to explore a field away from the Craig Sychtyn woods nature reserve and less than a mile mile from Offas Dyke Path, The Moelydd.
Venture out to explore the local area, where a plethora of attractions await.
Immerse yourself in over 700 years of history at the National Trust's Chirk Castle, or embrace the Countryside Experience at Park Hall.
Archaeology enthusiasts can explore the earthworks of Old Oswestry Hill Fort, one of Britain's best preserved Iron Age hill forts.
For nature lovers, a trip to Llanymynech Rocks Nature Reserve in Montgomeryshire offers a unique chance to explore stunning limestone cliffs and the inland at Ifton Meadows can offer you the chance to witness an array of fascinating wildlife.
You could also visit Llanymynech Heritage Area to experience its industrial past through preserved remains.
After such venturesome days, return to relax at The Long House, your ultimate rural retreat in the heart of border country, where the host resides in a nearby house on the property for any support if needed.

The Long House is a beautiful cottage in a wonderful, peaceful location, yet still allowing quick access to the many attractions of Shropshire and mid Wales. It was cosy, clean and tastefully decorated (some of your ideas have now been implemented back home Julie- apologies!). Whenever we're back in this area we will definitely re-book this property.
