Monopoli is a pearl of the Adriatic coast of Puglia, where history, sea and tradition blend together in an authentic and evocative atmosphere.
The historic center, an intricate maze of paved alleys, flower-filled courtyards and whitewashed houses, develops around the majestic Cathedral of Maria Santissima della Madia, a baroque masterpiece that dominates the city. Walking through the streets, you discover lively squares such as Piazza Garibaldi, the beating heart of city life, and Piazza Palmieri, framed by the eighteenth-century palace of the same name.
The Castle of Charles V, overlooking the sea, bears witness to the city's defensive past and offers a panoramic view of the ancient port. The proximity to the sea is one of Monopoli's strong points: the historic center overlooks coves of golden sand and crystal-clear water, such as Cala Porta Vecchia, easily reachable on foot.
The ancient walls that surround the city offer breathtaking views of the coast. The local gastronomy is a riot of flavors: orecchiette with turnip tops, fried panzerotti, focaccia barese and a variety of fresh fish dishes. We spent two days at this Airbnb and had a great stay. The apartment looks exactly like the photos, and the terrace is absolutely beautiful — definitely the highlight of the place! It is also very well located. We highly recommend staying here!
