The Carriage House is a small brick cottage originally built in the late 1800s and thoughtfully renovated to blend historic character with modern comfort.
Updates include fiber-optic Wi-Fi, mini-split heating and cooling, recessed LED lighting, a 5-burner gas range with oven, and a flat-screen smart TV.
Original artwork is featured throughout the space.
As with many historic homes, the Carriage House has character that comes with age — including occasional creaks and uneven surfaces — which we see as part of its charm.
The home is compact, comfortable, and carefully maintained to offer a unique and memorable stay.
The home features a king bedroom and full bathroom upstairs, along with a small sitting area that includes a twin-size sofa sleeper.
A half bath is located on the main level.

We live on a ranch 40 miles away and are generally not around during stays.
Service in this part of the world can be spotty at times.
Please be patient with us, we will respond as quickly as possible.
No über or Lyft available in town... yet.
Fingers crossed that we get a driver or two in the near future! We do have door dash, if you prefer to stay in.

The Amtrak station is only a few blocks away and easily walkable as well.

Outdoor Recreation Climax Canyon Park (801 Apache Ave) A nationally recognized trail system right in town. Short loop: ~1.5 miles Full loop: ~3 miles (easy to moderate) Great for walking, biking, and leashed dogs Parking is at the end of Apache Ave; walk through the gates to access trails Sugarite Canyon State Park Located just outside of town. Day-use fee for motorized vehicles Lake Maloya offers kayaking, boating, and fishing Extensive trail system with scenic views Fishing license required (available at Super Save Grocery) Groceries Super Save Grocery (1271 2nd St) The main grocery store in town. Open daily until 9:00 PM. Food & Drink Bruno’s Pizza & Wings (133 Cook Ave) Pizza, wings, salads, beer, and wine. Closed Tuesdays; open later on weekends. Colfax Ale Cellar (215 S 2nd St) Beer and wine only. No food service, but Bruno’s delivers here for free. Casa Lemus (350 Clayton Rd) Popular local Mexican restaurant. Typically open until 9:00 PM (later on weekends). Mulligan’s Restaurant (473 Clayton Rd) Full bar, TVs, and a large menu suitable for families. Generally open until 9:00 PM. Movies & Entertainment El Raton Theatre (115 N 2nd St) Shuler Theatre (131 N 2nd St) Showtimes typically run Thursday through Sunday. Check the El Raton Theatre website for current listings.
