Herzhausen is located on the upper part of the Edersee. With its almost 27 km length and a capacity of approx. 200 million cubic meters, it is one of the largest European reservoirs and is also located in a charming low mountain landscape characterized by lots of forest on the eastern edge of the Sauerland in the northern part of the state of Hesse. Many leisure activities are possible here: anglers, cyclists and mountain bikers, motorcycle enthusiasts, water sports enthusiasts, hikers and/or people who are looking for relaxation in nature and by the water will get their money's worth here. On the southern bank of Lake Edersee, the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park invites you to hikes and MTB tours through unique beech forests. It offers a wide range of options for nature lovers at altitudes from 200m to over 600m above sea level. In the national park center on the B252, just 1.5 km from the holiday apartment, you will find a lot of information about events and guided tours in the national park. The jungle trail around the lake is for A worthwhile challenge for hikers and offers hikers insights into the "Old Beech Forest", which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2011. The lake offers opportunities for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, fishing, water skiing, canoeing, rowing, swimming and diving. Other offers in the immediate vicinity of the lake such as the high ropes course, Waldeck Castle, cable car and funicular, animal park, summer toboggan run, aqua park and corn maze can be easily reached in 10 to 30 minutes by car. If you want to invest more time, you can also reach these destinations via the Edersee cycle path, which is around 50 kilometers long and runs around the lake. Ferries in Asel-Süd and Rehbach also enable the cycle path to be shortened and increase the experience of such an undertaking. The Edersse boat trip makes it possible to experience the landscape from the water with pleasant hospitality and to receive information about the construction of the dam. If you like to go on excursions, you can visit the nearby small towns of Frankenberg (20km) with its special town hall, the district town of Korbach (12km) with its interesting old town with many half-timbered houses and some refreshments, or the spa town of Bad Wildungen with its spa park and the historic Friedrichstein Castle. Further options include the nearby Sauerland with the well-known winter sports resorts of Willingen (35km) and Winterberg (40km), which also have a lot to offer in summer. In winter, if there is enough snow, you can go cross-country skiing on the wonderful high-altitude trails after about 30 minutes by car or use the snow-covered slopes of Willingen or Winterberg for alpine carving or snowboarding. After these activities, you can retreat back to the quiet atmosphere of our town and are not the same Business of the sometimes busy winter sports resorts. The town of Willingen can be reached by train from Herzhausen in around 40 minutes without changing. You can also enjoy city life in the immediate vicinity of Lake Edersee. The university town of Marburg/Lahn with its student atmosphere and interesting town center with Elisabeth Church and castle is worth a visit. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Documenta city of Kassel, a transport hub in the middle of Germany, developed into a diverse northern Hessian metropolis with a mixture of industry, the up-and-coming university and internationally renowned art and cultural events. A shopping spree in the region's only major city with almost 200,000 inhabitants and/ or a visit to the extraordinary Wilhelmshöhe mountain park with its water features and the Hercules, which towers as a landmark high above the city of Kassel, round off an eventful day. You can reach Herzhausen again in less than an hour by car.

How to get there
The easiest way to find the apartment is to leave the B252 in the town towards Vöhl/Scherrmauer and, outside the town, just behind the cemetery on the right, turn left towards the school, after approx. 250m turn left at the first houses downhill and take the second street to the right turns into Fliederweg. The goal is reached at the 3rd house on the right. At the last intersection there is also a house with the number 3 on the left. This house number belongs to the street on Hohlen Graben. At the entrance to the apartment you will find a sign that identifies our 3-star certified holiday apartment. The railway line between Frankenberg/Eder and Korbach has been put back into operation since 2015. The train stop is on the B252 at the entrance to Herzhausen, approx. 600 m from the holiday apartment. It takes between 10 and 15 minutes on foot. Connections by train, for example to the Ruhr area, are from the northwest via Brilon-Wald, and to the Rhine-Main area via Marburg/Lahn from the south. The Kassel ICE train station can be reached in around 2 hours with a change in Korbach or Brilon-Wald. Please always contact the landlord in good time before your arrival to discuss the arrival time and key handover. If you arrive by train, the luggage transfer from the train stop to the apartment can also be arranged.

Description of the accommodation
The apartment is located in the basement of the house occupied by the landlord. The house is situated on a quiet south-facing slope and has a living room (with additional sleeping accommodation for two people, suitable for families with two children), a bedroom, a small, well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with washbasin, shower and WC and is approx. 50m2 in size. Free W-LAN guest access is available. The apartment has a separate, barrier-free entrance via the terrace, which can be used by guests as well as the adjoining lawn with seating area and swing. A parking space for one car is available.
