Your very own exclusive hideaway in the historic heart of central Oxford. Exclusively yours, Greyfriars Hideaway comprises two 17th Century properties, rare survivors of their time, that sit opposite each other within a private and secure Garden Courtyard down a quiet street opposite Oxford Castle. The Masters Lodgings, sleeping four over two ‘whole floor’ suites, and Cloisters sleeping eight over four suites, are appointed to the highest standards with perfectionist attention to detail and brim with style, character and antiquity throughout; they’re sure to inspire even the most discerning traveller.
Only a few minutes walk from the university buildings, theatres, museums and select shopping, this secret hideaway in the heart the city only reveals itself when you open the door and step into The Courtyard Garden, a veritable Eden of greenery embraced by the soft sound of the fountain.
The Masters Lodgings, sleeping but four people over two ‘whole floor’ suites, brims with style, character and antiquity. The suites, each consuming a whole floor, are furnished with hand-made super-king size beds and Vi-Spring Elite mattresses [each made to order and perfect for that restorative night’s sleep]. There are soft seating areas in both the bedrooms and dressing rooms. The bedrooms are en suite with roll-top bath and the dressing rooms offer a rain-drop shower. Both the en suite and dressing room are presented in porcelain and natural stone finish. The dressing room is furnished with a desk, dressing area with tulipwood wardrobes and easy chair - a lovely room in which to relax.
A Listed 17th Century wood-panelled staircase links the bedrooms with the ground floor where there is a fully equipped luxury hand-made tulipwood kitchen, complete with bean-to-cup coffee machine, double ovens, Quooker boiling tap, induction hob and a breakfast dining table that overlooks the restful Garden Courtyard. The perfect space to start your day in the city.
Adjacent to the kitchen is the large and cosy period wood-panelled sitting room furnished with Harris Tweed sofa and chairs, plus Yew wood dining table offering a formal dining option for guests choosing to eat in, perhaps with the option of a private chef to tailor a menu of one’s choosing. The Butler’s Pantry off the sitting room offers additional facilities. French doors lead from the Drawing Room into the Courtyard Garden with seating beneath the arbour allowing guests to enjoy the benefits of a tranquil space right in the centre of the city.
Cloisters sleeps eight over four individually styled bedroom and bathroom suites. Each spacious suite is complemented with dedicated dressing areas with soft seating, hand-made super-kind beds and Vi-Spring Elite mattresses [each made to order and perfect for that restorative night’s sleep], and stunning porcelain and natural stone bathrooms with freestanding baths and monsoon or raindrop showers, essential to soak away any stresses from the day.
With sleek, sophisticated and characterful interior design this property is sure to delight. Walking in off The Courtyard Garden you are greeted by a large, colourful open-plan reception room. This space offers plenty of comfortable seating and space to spread out, relax, watch the large-screen TV or read quietly perhaps with the French Doors open onto the garden.
The ground floor also offers a cloakroom, Butlers Pantry and a modern luxury kitchen with central island feature, double ovens, bean-to-cup coffee machine [perfect for the inner barista], wine fridge, three sinks with Quooker boiling taps and a dedicated breakfast zone.
The central staircase leads you to the four suites, one boasting a Grade II listed ornate plaster ceiling dating back to the early 17th Century. Two suites overlook the greenery of the garden; while the other two face towards Oxford Castle, a truly stunning sight when illuminated at night.
Outside there is a large dining table with chairs set beneath the arbour and right outside the glass French Doors, providing the perfect opportunity to sit or dine outside and appreciate the special atmosphere of this secluded garden, hidden away right in the centre of the city.
For music lovers, your experience is further enhanced by a SONOS architectural sound system, as Greyfriars Hideaway is equipped with a state-of-the-art multi-room system complemented by MONITOR in-ceiling speakers.
Tucked away in the historic heart of Oxford City Centre, guests staying at Greyfriars Hideaway benefit not only from a private and secure location but close proximity to all Oxford’s shops, tourist attractions, theatres, museums, universities and Botanical Gardens; not to mention all the restaurants and bars. This is truly the perfect location to immerse yourself in heritage, arts and culture. Don’t forget to take some time out to stroll the cobbled streets of Oxford or why not take to the river for a tour or even try your hand at punting.
Top things to do nearby include walks through rambling deer parks, botanic gardens and lush meadows, and jaunts to Henley-on-Thames to see varsity teams row in regattas. Walkers amble between stony Cotswold villages like Witney and Woodstock, and tread ridgeways over the Chiltern Hills as red kites swoop overhead. Meanwhile, shoppers spend happy days lost in central Oxford or Bicester’s designer shopping village.
Whether you are celebrating a joyous occasion, visiting for the sights of Oxford or on business, Greyfriars Hideaway is a truly unparalleled destination delivering sheer luxury and matching your high expectations.
