These properties have a security deposit of £200. Please note: There are many steps and ledges, and a fast flowing river within the grounds.. These superb historic cottages have been meticulously converted from outbuildings of the Grade II* listed Torr Vale Mill, which was once England’s longest continuous working mill between 1785 and 2000. Sitting in a deep valley on the banks of the River Goyt, the cottages are wonderfully individual and retain many fabulous clues as to their heritage. To access The Old Workshop, from the mill yard you step through a door and then climb wooden stairs up to the first floor.
You emerge into a stunning open plan space that merges contemporary furnishings with the original stone walls of an 18th century mill workshop.
Looking up quite superbly the old drivebelt wheels runs through the open roof beams, and you are instantly reminded of the incredible heritage of this unique building.
On the same floor you’ll find three spacious bedrooms, one of which opens out onto a small, gravelled terrace with views down to the river.
Outside a short walk past the mighty chimney stack and you’ll reach the award-winning Millennium Walkway.
This 160m long cantilevered walkway provides a route through the previously impassable gritstone gorge at Torrs, New Mills which is an area of exceptional natural beauty and unique industrial archaeological heritage. Perched on the northwest corner of the Peak District, New Mills is a scenic, thriving town with a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs.
Being on the edge of the National Park means there’s an abundance of beautiful towns and villages to explore such as Edale, Castleton and Hope, all of which all can be reached in around 30 minutes.
The National Trust’s Lyme Park is around 20 minutes from the property, Eyam and Bakewell and the magnificent historic house of Chatsworth, are all around 40 minutes away.
Finally the bright lights of Manchester and Sheffield can be reached by direct train from New Mills station. These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 17 guests. What a unique place to stay! We loved it, such a great open space to hang out as a group. Was super cosy and well heated despite the high ceilings (a concern in advance)Epic sofas and bath! All in all we shall always remember the year we went to the mill.
